Subject: Undoing Institutional Racism (UIR) Workshop
*********************
The Undoing Institutionalized Racism Workshop is a two-day workshop designed to
educate, challenge and empower people to "undo" institutionalized racism. The
training is based on the premise that racism has been systematically erected and
that it can be "undone" if people understand where it comes from, how it
functions, and how it is perpetuated.
This workshop is led by The People's Institute for Survival and Beyond, a
national multiracial, antiracist organization dedicated to building an effective
movement for social change. The People's Institute was founded in 1980, has
trained thousands of people in hundreds of communities throughout the United
States, and is recognized nationally for the quality of its training.
These workshops are coordinated by the Human Services Department to provide a
service to the community, but are funded by the participants. Upcoming workshops
will take place in Seattle January 9-10, 11-12 and February 14-15, 16-17. The
cost for each participant is $300 and includes meals during the workhop. More
information can be seen at the Undoing Institutionalized Racism Website:
