Re: [pf] Abandoned Malls, Suburban Blight

I agree that this is a serious problem. Kudos to communities like Asheville,
NC, who are fighting Wal-Mart trying to claim new space (for a super
Wal-Mart) and abandon their old "regular" store. So far they are successful.
When I visited over Thanksgiving, the local paper was full of outraged
letters from people who really wanted a super Wal-Mart. Sigh.
This issue is a primary one that Kunstler addresses in his New Urbanism. He
says that these abandoned properties become blights because there is nothing
there to care about, architecturally or in terms of space usage.
