I hope the day will come when a president doesn't have to make a point of
choosing minorities and women for key administrative posts.
We haven't learned anything about what type of president Bush will be by his
appointments so far. They have mostly been on foreign policy, which does not
vary much from administration to administration. The bigger clues will come
when Bush names his heads of domestic policy agencies, such as the EPA,
Labor, Energy and HHS. I hope I don't sound too cynical, but I'm wondering
if he's not announcing the non-controversial ones first to firm up his image
as a "centrist", then put forth the more conservative appointments when
attention and interest has died down. It's hard for me to believe that he
hasn't already selected a full cabinet.
