David,
    Actually other countries do.  Their ways have been derailed by our
agribusinesses (perhaps with good intentions, perhaps not), and by austerity
measures of the World Bank or IMF.  The remedy is not to impose more costly,
high input, patented varieties of plants (yes, Monsanto let go of the patent
of one of them - but it is not a remedy - it is a bandaid), but rather to
use appropriate plants and technology.
