Please excuse me if this has been covered, not paying close
attention.

Bear in mind that the Senate could change and gain a Democrat or two
over the next four years. Strom Thurmond, Republican from SC, is now
98 years young but has been in and out of the hospital. Also, Jesse
Helms, now 78 years young, Republican from NC, has also been in and
out of hte hospital and recently denied rumors of having prostate
cancer. I'm not wishing for either of these gentlemen to pass on,
however, if that should happen they are from states that have a
Democratic Governor who would appoint the next Senator.

We already know that Bush intends to drill Alaska for oil, he said
as much in the debates. He had nothing to say about working on fuel
and energy for the future. All he is concerned about is the here and
now. I have a friend who works for the Department of Forestry in
VA, who spent two weeks in Alaska this Autumn. She is very concerned
about what this will mean for the environment in Alaska.
