Re: [pf] Disposable contacts

Diane,
I got contacts when I was 14 and they changed my self image so much. I was
never the paragon of responsibility when it came to caring for things (nor
was I particularly mature), but I was so highly motivated with my contacts
that I cared for them very well.
Of course, they were hard contact lenses, as this was in a different age.
About disposables: I no longer wear contacts -- and I never had experience
with soft ones. However, I understand that disposables are preferable because
of hygiene issues. Evidently it is very possible to get numerous (and
serious) eye infections with soft lenses because it is so difficult to keep
them sterile over time. The disposables take care of this factor. So you may
want to look at this issue through a new "lens".
My parents weren't too keen on my getting contacts. I saved up my 50 cent an
hour babysitting money to get them. They were about $140 at the time, so I
did a lot of serious babysitting. In other words, I *really* wanted them.
You may want to look at this from a self esteem issue, but also please do
your homework about what options are available and why. I think that this
might be an area where disposable might be a good thing, but I have no direct
experience.
Blessings, Priscilla
