I have seen the movie "The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit," which starred
Gregory Peck. This is from imdb.com:
The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit, (1956) Thomas Rath is the father of three
children working since he came back from World War II as a small employee
without any chances of a career. Thus his wife wants him to become the
assistant of the president of a major broadcasting company. Just
in this important situation for Rath he gets involved into other personal
problems: There are difficulties in an inheritage of his and there is also
an Italian son of his from a love affair with an Italian woman during the
war...
Diane again: Basically, the character goes through some difficult struggles,
such as deciding whether he is "selling out," telling his wife about his
illegitimate son (he was married at the time), etc.
If you think the 1950s was all about denial, see this movie. While it is,
of course, all neatly wrapped up at thend, it does explore some very real
issues that still resonate today.
