[pf] Reducing Driving and Cell Phone Towers

I am just starting to catch up on all of the pf posts for the last week -
and am interested in the "how can we change our lives" one. And am stymied
by the transportation part of it.

The one recommendation - support organic foods - we do that, growing them.
But our situation that encourages us to grow them also has us using cars a
lot.

In fact, I just came back from a trip back east - about 2000 miles - in our
van, which gets 20 miles to the gallon. That's a lot of driving!!! But we
can not afford the other means of transportation, so in order to see our
families, both of which are back east......

In addtion, by living here on a 40 acre farm in an already built farmhouse,
we are helping and working to preserve area farmland and open space, also a
need for the long term.

Although I have not yet spent much time/personal energy on working on local
transportation issues, I find myself getting more and more pulled in that
direction. So there is a new adventure ahead!

Here is a question that I wanted to ask you all about an observation from
the trip. We saw lots of cell phone towers on this trip. I know that the
cell phone people would like a tower about every 6 miles or so. In fact,
one is being proposed in our town and the one next to us. I need to look
into whether there are harmful effects from such towers since I am a zoning
board member - I need to know. Anybody have any knowledge on this, or
suggestions? I haven't searched the web yet, but just thought one of you
might know.

                Jill
