Re: [pf] David's McKibbon postings by Betsy Gannon 27 November 2000 14:58 UTC -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hmmm, I seem to have 'lost' David and Jill's postings.... I'm Betsy Gannon and have just rejoined the list after having been 'dropped' sometime last summer. I never got around to rejoining. The first posting I saw on returning to the list was David's (!!!) on Hague. Thank you SO much, David for those. I read every one and am struck again, as has been discussed, how little of import we get in our mass media. Although the final coverage here, very small, captured the despair of many delgates, McKibbon's writing and the analogies he draws are strong, moving. And I must say, David seemed to speak to Jill's evidently feeling deflated after the campaign here ended. I'm sorry, Jill, and hope David's experience has helped a bit. I have heard people say that we need to build the Green Party from the ground up, I mean more broadly than in the states which have representation, rather than from the top down. Do you think that's just not going to happen in this country? I worked on signatures for Nader for the MA ballot but finally could not vote for him because of Bush and the Supreme Court issues. My decision. Even though I am now registered in Massachusetts, considered a 'safe' state, rather than Florida where I am for the winter. This election was Gore's to win and I always say that to friends who grouse about Nader supporters. That's not the issue. It was only my personal decision making. It seems to me that this 'civic lesson' can go two ways. More voting participation, or less, now knowing how many similar problems exist counting ballots around this country. Usually hidden but brought to light by the open counting in Florida. It makes me want to grow more tomatoes. best, Betsy
