And to piggy-back on Nan's opening statement, we agreed that many
pos-futures types come to that world view from a deep spiritual base, some
of those Christians, such as myself.
I told her how I believe that many of the justice issues include Christians
at the front, and that it saddens me to see the stereotypical image of a
"born-again" Christian as one who wants to force his/her morality down
everyone's throat. (I hate the use of the born-again adjective as if that
denotes a particular group of Christians; I believe by definition a
Christian must view him/herself as born again.) The most advanced
Christians I have known are the ones demonstrating against capitol
punishment and nuclear war; working in the prisons and the shelters;
fighting for the environment and civil rights, etc.
I'll take it a step further: the older I get the harder time I have
reconciling wealth with being a Christian. Of course, Christians (including
myself) often duck this issue by saying, "Define wealth."
My mind wonders about such things especially around Christmas, a Christian's
second-most important holiday. I don't mind the secularization of the
holiday as much as I do the consumer frenzy practiced by the members of my
religion.
Bordering on Scrooge-like tendencies,
