It's my understanding that each candidate--each party, really--has a set of
electors. The candidate who gets the most votes gets that set of electors sent
to do the electoral college voting. It's highly likely that each set of
electors is made up of people who are very committed to both the party and the
candidate. So it's unlikely they would switch, even if they were not bound.
